Sardinia and Barolo CountrySept. 18 to Oct. 2nd, 2022

First, immerse yourself in the southern part of Sardinia, enjoying beautiful hikes and the stunning emerald blue green water of the Mediterranean, then indulge in Piemonte tasting some of the best reds Italy has to offer: Barolo, Nebbiolo, Barbera and more.

WEEK ONE

To acclimate we will spend three days in the vibrant, hilltop, capital of Sardinia, Cagliari, walking around old town, enjoying an aperitivo with a view and of course venturing to San Benedetto’s market to discover the essence of Sardinia through its food, a fusion of colors, aromas, textures, and shapes, truly one of the best market scenes in all of Italy.

Almost like Rome, Cagliari was built on seven hills, with a Medieval Castle and walled quarter situated on the highest point overlooking the rest of the city. Below the city is the beautiful bay of Golfo degli Angeli (Angels Bay). There are hundreds of cafes, trattorias, and restaurants offering incredible food, so plan on having an Italian style aperitivo and dinner during sunset to enjoy the stunning view of the coastline.

Within just twenty minutes driving from Cagliari one can enjoy numerous beaches well worth visiting. Mari Pintau (Which in Sardinian dialect means Painted Sea) for instance is one of many bays and beaches with public access with views and clear water what will leave you breathless.

The contrast of the city, the beaches and the wilderness and the soft blue on the horizon along with the charm of the locals will captivate your heart.

The last four days in southern Sardinia we will explore a few towns along the east coast enjoying unspoiled nature, hiking, cheese tasting, wine tasting and all that the local cuisine has to offer. We will spend a day on the water, snorkeling and swimming in caves surrounded by the most dramatic landscape, walking on paradisiac fine sandy beaches only accessible by boat and taking a dip in crystal clear water.

WEEK TWO

On the last week for a change of scenery we fly to Piemonte, a gastronomic paradise famous for Italian coffee, chocolate, the age-worthy Barolo, truffle, Campari and a lot more. We enjoy a couple days in the capital Torino with its imposing Mole Antonelliana, vibrant shops, large corso, Baroque churches, porticos, corner wine shops, hidden squares, Piazza Castello, and the royal palace and its elegant gardens.

The last three days we drive to the wine country checking the towns of Alba, Barolo, and Bra to name a few. We leave the city to immerse ourselves into a luscious wine experience driving by sleepy villages, castles, and hillsides blanketed in grape vines, stopping to enjoy some pasta dusted with shaved fresh truffles.

Toward the end of September if the grapes are ready, we might experience the harvest on the way to Barolo. A must see is the fairy-tale like Castello Grinzane Cavour, an ancient fortification dating to the 11th century, today a Unesco World Heritage Site. At Marchesi di Barolo we will indulge into Barolo tasting tour, cooking with a local chef, and food pairing experience.
