Sea Urchin Fishing & Snorkeling off the Ionic Coast

Sea urchins are an incredible sea creature that is quite a delicacy in Southern Italy. Unlike many other so-called delicacies, this one is actually delicious (if you love sushi). When you snorkel they seem unfriendly due to their hundreds of black needles, but they are totally harmless (as long as you avoid stepping on them, ouch). Get ready for a fun sea adventure to learn from our Local how to fish for them, how to clean them and how to eat them. Most people of southern Italy start fishing for sea urchins by the age of 12, if not younger.

Our Local will pick you up and gear you up with mask and fins. Then you’ll all head to the Ionian Sea at the very spot he dove at a young age. After retrieving a few, you can then watch and learn how to open and eat them right there by the sea. You can relax and snorkel some more and when it is lunchtime you will head over to Antonella’s beach house for a fabulous Italian lunch with the familia and more delicious fish prepared for you with love. The sea air and water is sure to work up your appetite so plan on eating a lot over a 2-hour-long meal full of great cheers and homemade and regional wine. Antonella’s beach house is just 1 block from the beach and after lunch you can enjoy a walk on the beach or even better, a snooze under the umbrella taking in the sea breeze.
