Living like a “Carioca” in Rio

“Carioca” is the term used in Brazil to name the native inhabitants of the city of Rio de Janerio (someone actually born and raised in Rio goes by “Carioca da gema”). Rio is an incredibly vast, exhilarating, multicultural city. When most tourists visit Rio, they usually go to the beach and the most popular spots in the noble part of the city. But Rio offers so much more than that.

Allow our Local, Paula, to show you the lesser-known gems of the city in a walk through downtown, where you’ll explore various neighborhoods full of historical buildings, museums, churches, and commercial buildings. Live as a “Carioca” for a day ― walk along Rio Branco Avenue, swing by a food cart to taste the local eats, try a tapioca or açai (a popular smoothie drink), or stop at an open-air cafe for a caipirinha (a refreshing alcoholic beverage).

During this Experience, you will have the opportunity to do what Paula does almost everyday after work in downtown ― discover points of interests, enjoy the beauty of and get the feel for her city as it comes alive after work, and learn how the Brazilian relax.
