The Brazilian Way: Connect with the Chatuba Community

Rio de Janeiro, BrazilCall For Price Full Day

One of our Local, Paula’s greatest passions is the work of an organization called “Mundo Novo da Cultura Viva”, which literally means “New World of the Living Culture.” Built more than ten years ago from the dream of a 16-year-girl named Bianca who lived in the community of Chatuba in Rio, this organization began in the modest living room of her mother’s house. Today it is a thriving educational and cultural resource in the city of Mesquita and its surroundings.

This Experience gives you a unique opportunity to get away from the city for a day and and get a feel for everyday life in a very authentic community. After meeting downtown at a famous landmark in Rio (either the Marina Palace in Leblon, the Copacabana Palace Hotel, or the Teatro Municipal), Paula will take you out of the city center via local transportation that includes a train and the popular “kombi” (popular minivan) to immerse yourself in the Chatuba neighborhood. In honor of your visit, the local Escola de Samba will perform for you the popular national Afro-Brazilian dance.

Once you have finished your visit with the organization and learned about its activities, you will share a tasty Brazilian lunch made by locals from the community who work there ― get ready to taste the best feijoada ever (tasty original stew of beans pork and beef)! You will also have a chance to admire and/or purchase crafts made by local artisans in the organization as a source of income. This unforgettable Experience will offer you many insights into the real culture of Brazil and its people.
