During the first part of this trip we will be enjoying some of the most spectacular views and towns on the Mediterranean. Walking around the narrow streets of Sorrento and tasting the local cuisine and limoncello. Travel by boat to Capri to spend the day. We then move for a few days in a beautiful B&B above Positano, go hiking along the Path of the Gods, and enjoy an incredible lunch at a farm to table terrace restaurant with a stunning view.
Before we head to Calabria, we will also take day trips to Amalfi and Ravello, go out for some of the best pizza with mozzarella di bufala, and do a little shopping.
On September 11th we travel south to Calabria, a region for the most part undiscovered, changing pace and scenery to a more relaxing time. Here we will be staying three nights in a Medieval castle from 1300s and enjoy a cooking class in the ancient kitchen with two local friends (Patrizia & Giovanna).
Weather allowing, we will also spend time on a boat going around the island of Dino and visiting the blue cave. Hiking along the coast to San Nicola and the ancient town of Scalea will give you a sense of the history of this incredible region. We will also spend two days in the charming town of Tropea perched on the rocks above the Mediterranean.
On September 16th we fly to Rome to spend three days surrounded by more ancient Roman history. Here we will go on two 1/2 day tours, the Vatican and Vatican museum one day and the Colosseum and Roman Forum another. The last day (Sept. 18th) you enjoy a free day to relax further and start adjusting to the idea that sadly, vacation is almost over.
Places you will visit and experiences along the way accompanied by Antimo.
Start your travel from the US on Sept. 4th to arrive the following day in Rome FCO airport or in Naples. Transfer to hotel in Sorrento.
Note: Flying in and out of Rome FCO will likely be cheaper, however you will need to transfer by train + taxi to Sorrento. On September 16th you will need to book a separate one way flight to Rome FCO from Lamezia Terme airport (airport code SUF) around 11:30 or Noon. Fly back to the USA on September 19th from Rome FCO unless you plan to stay longer and travel north.
